I can't believe that there are people who did not like Dostana. I thought it was laugh out loud funny. One bunch of people thought that the humour was puerile and childish and therefore not funny. If this is a longstanding thought, then they must not like 90% of all comedy movies emerging from Bollywood. This lot should all shift to watching Woody Allen movies. Bollywood specializes in childish, simple to understand, sometimes slapstick comedy....

A few people have criticized Sushmita Mukherjee's Sindhi auntie character in Dostana as being over the top and more caricature than reality. She dresses and behaves loudly, wears fat jewelry, has a full-on Sindhi accent, regularly asks inquisitive questions and occasionally responds to people in Sindhi whether they understand it or not. Not many Sindhis will object to this, for it's quite close to the truth. I recognised some of my own relatives in Sushmita's character. ...

Sonu Sood came to the studio for an interview, he’s the lead in Ek Vivah…Aisa Bhi. What a fine fellow he is. He’s from Moga in Punjab, which I cannot find on the map. Studied electronics engineering, plays the guitar, recites Tamil film dialogues, built like a horse and at the risk of sounding a little gay, is quite a handsome fellow. Ten years in the industry, no godfather, had his struggling days including some suspiciously flop films. He’s done South films with Rajnikant and Nagarjuna, which is a feather in anybody’s cap and has now come into his own with roles in Jodha Akbar and Singh is King. He’s now the lead in a big banner film and will next do a movie where he plays eleven roles. All of this while being completely down to earth....

For those of us who were in town during Diwali week, traveling to and from work was a breeze thanks to the people who either left town or stayed at home. I actually enjoyed the trips back and forth. No backups for no apparent reason, no screaming matches between random cars that ended up blocking traffic, even cabs and autos were not as annoying while they jumped lanes because there was so much space to do that. ...

I met an old acquaintance at a restaurant close to my place. I asked if he had shifted to the suburbs, given that I had known him to live in town. So he gives me that sad, old line about having to apply for a visa to cross Worli and cackles uproariously. You know, take your visa and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine. As much as I love South Bombay ...
